What Customers Say About Sony Reader Digital book - Red (PRS505RC):

I am also planning on utilizing the SD card slots to keep collections of books on different cards. The Sony PRS505 fit that bill nicely, plus the red color is a very nice touch.

But my sister and boss convinced me to try one. I did a lot of research before settling on the Sony PRS505 and I am extrememly pleased with my choice.

I wasn't sure I wanted a book reader. My critera was good value and features for the price I was willing to pay.

My reasons for buying the Sony were the price, the screen resolution, the built-in capacity, ability to add SD cards, and the availablity of books from a wide variety of sites. The Kindle was nice but not worth the extra money for the backlight (I didn't care about the wireless feature) nor could I add extra memory (although 16 GB is a lot).

My boss has the Kindle and was very impressed with the feel of the Sony (metal case versus plastic). I made a great choice.

I am so happy with this e reader and I really can zip through a lot of books. Easy to read in bed. I am reading a book with over 1800 pages and would not be able to hold a book that size for very long.

This is truly a great device. I love Sony's Reader site and I have downloaded over 20 free books and purchase a few too. My red Reader has provided me with new companion during my travels. This reader is portable and convenient to carry in my purse, so I am never far from a book. I had considered a Kindle but Sony's size and portablity was the deciding factor on my purchase. Books download within seconds and I have found several websites with free magazines and other periodicals.

If that is what the machine has to do inorder to imprint the words on the screen then so be it.It needs no internal light because that only causes battery longevity problems, then we have more people complaining about having to constantly recharge the battery.I have yet to utilize that mp3 player (I have one on my phone and use my bluetooth headset for those) and i don't plan on using it either. I have now had this product for over a month now and I still love it. the last thing i want is to forget to recharge my reader, go on a six hour trip, read and play music, then half way through I have to turn off the reader or lose everything. This machine is great. The clarity of the screen is fantastic. At times I have to remind myself that it is actually an electonic screen that I am looking at.The complaints about the flickering of the screen as you change pages don't seem to be a problem to me. Unfortunately i can't compare it to other readers because i am not going to buy them to see how they work. so what it comes down to is that i trust sony so i see no other reason to not trust any of their products.Although I do wish it came with bluetooth capabilities.

Elegant, sleek, and stylish. Now, on to my question. Yes, this one, the red 505, looks like it came out of an ultra-modern, latest generation CGI big budget film. I've compared the 500 and this one, the 505 side by side. It seems such a waste to toss this nice leather case because of a stupid plastic strip. Pardon my description of this plastic strip.

Each end of the plastic strip (spine) has a plastic upturned rectangle end with a tiny nub in the center to fit each end of the reader.

The e-ink screen has got to be seen to be believed.

One of the ends of the plastic strip broke.

The 500 series looks like something from the 1960's TV show Star Trek.

My 5 year old dropped the Reader whilst it was in its leather case.

If one did not know better it would appear that there is an actual paper page just beneath the screen. Here is my slight problem.

The beautiful (is it brown burgundy or red) leather case that comes by default with this Red Sony 505 has a plastic strip adhered to the leather spine that serves as a "holder" if you will, for the Sony Reader.

Unfortunately, the case no longer works as without both ends with the nub to insert into the Sony reader, the reader just flops around.I tried crazy glue to no avail.

Anyone know if these strips are sold separately.
